‘Amnesty for April’: calling all wheelchair users!

Tuesday 31st March 2015. Do you have equipment or accessories you no longer need?

CSH Surrey, which runs mid Surrey's local NHS Wheelchair service (covering Epsom, Leatherhead and Elmbridge), is holding a ‘Wheelchair Amnesty’ in April to prompt users to return any wheelchairs or accessories they no longer need or are no longer using.

The amnesty will run from Wednesday 1st April until Thursday 30th April 2015. People with equipment to return can either call Millbrook Healthcare on 0845 293 7268 to arrange collection, or they can take it directly to the Wheelchair Department at Leatherhead Hospital (Tel: 01372 384 383).

The idea was the brainchild of Wheelchair Service Team Leader, Zena Wisbey: “We want to make sure we’re making the most of our equipment and accessories by getting items that are no longer being used back out to those who need them. So, for our ‘Amnesty for April’ we’re asking all wheelchair users to help their fellow users by returning any equipment they’re no longer using or no longer need.”

Eileen Clark, Head of Clinical Quality, Clinical Governance and Patient Safety at Surrey Downs CCG, which commissions the Wheelchair Service from CSH Surrey says: “This is a great idea and will mean we can re-use the equipment for others who now need it.”
